Welcome to your Karate in Manchester.
We offer training across the city, with our two main hubs being the Central Hall close to Piccadilly Gardens and the Angel Centre in Salford, close to Spinningfields.
There is no greater source of health and fitness than the ancient fighting arts. Born in conflict, deeply rooted in Asian philosophy, focused on a holistic lifestyle, they answer many questions of modern life. And they are also quite good if you want to learn how to pack a punch. Martial arts can make you feel better and be safer on many levels.
Our training follows the Missing Link cycle concept that makes it possible to attend the regular Omote (core) classes, no matter of your graduation level. On top of that, you find Okuden classes featuring advanced and specialised topics.
To make training as flexible and practical for you as possible, the schedule offers a mix of indoor and online classes throughout the week. Individual lessons are available as well.
In Manchester, you will find a team of highly skilled and experienced instructors around Sensei Tony Bolton, Arto Laaksonen and Carl Taylor, bringing decades of experience in many different martial arts to the table.
What does it cost?
First class is free, if you like it, £38 per month. That includes all classes, also the online lessons, and discounted private lessons if you want to train more. Events and seminars are often reduced as well form members.
More classes?
Seminars, workshops, private lessons, online classes, Qi Gong, Workouts… and you can train in any Missing Link dojo on the planet.
Any hidden costs?
Yeah. If you want to grade or come regularly, you should have a yearly license that costs £20 and also includes insurance. Gradings and seminars cost a small extra amount.
Clothes?
A black shirt and ideally white pants. If you want, Karate trousers are cheap on Amazon, and at missinglink-martialarts.uk/gear you find our official training shirt.
What Karate style?
Any! We follow the Missing Link concept, and that is very open. More info at www.missinglinkmartialarts.org
Do you want to be part of the journey?
Missing Link is a research community offering a unique concept of learning and teaching martial arts. Based on Japanese Karate, we connect its Chinese Roots and focus strongly on Modern Application. You are welcome, no matter what's your martial arts background, and you can always stay in your original association/style/art if you like.
Training is open for all ages, with dedicated Kids Classes. We follow the Manchester Syllabus of the Missing Link Community. Find out more about gradings and the Missing Link Community here.
Manchester Karate is the first Missing Link Dojo in the UK, started by Founder Circle Member Heero Miketta, a German Martial Arts teacher who moved to the UK in 2010 after living in Finland, Estonia and China before. He has been practicing martial arts for over 35 years. Besides founding numerous different Dojos, he also worked for the German police, co-developed concepts for self-defence and violence prevention and initiated the German ShoShin Projekt, a network of martial arts teachers from different backgrounds that aims to research and teach without limitations, based on exchange and cross-training between styles and methods from all around the world.
Martial Arts is for everyone.
There is no "right" age to start Karate - because martial arts should be working for you. Whatever your height, weight, age, gender... it does not matter.
